Folks, we need to talk. Texas Frightmare Weekend, the premier horror convention of the Southwest (Dallas, TX), is in their 13th year of existence and we all know the number 13 means big things in the horror realm. Every year I leave feeling like they won’t be able to top what they just did. Yet, every year they continue to defy expectations.
On top of photo ops, autographs, panels, and tons of merchandise, TFW will use this 13th year to showcase reunions for Hellraiser and Child’s Play. As of now, Clive Barker, Doug Bradley, & the Cenobites are confirmed as guests. Brad Dourif and Alex Vincent will also be there for the Child’s Play reunion. I have loved these films since childhood and am beyond stoked for the dedicated photo ops, autographs, and eventual panels these guests will deliver. In typical TFW fashion, the goods don’t stop there. Guests will even be offered film screenings and after-hour parties with some of the biggest names in horror.
At 4.5 months away we are still seeing guest announcements, and they aren’t minor ones. Recent additions include the Ultimate Friday the 13th photo op, which consists of six notable actors to portray my hero, as well as the current announcements for The Losers’ Club from the 2017 It movie. Hell, they are even bringing the filmmaker and screenwriter for Troll 2! The fact that there are still notable names being added to the list leaves me in awe at how grande this is going to be. Keep in mind this is the same convention that gave fans two chances to meet George A. Romero in the 5 years before his passing.
Some, but not all, of the guest I have chalked down to meet include: Clive Barker (Hellraiser), Doug Bradley (Pinhead), Ron Perlman (Hellboy), Brad Dourif (Chucky), Kane Hodder (F13 7-X, Hatchet), Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw II-IV), Steve Dash (F13 Part 2), Ethan Embry (The Devil’s Candy) and many more.
The convention is officially sponsored by the incredible Arrow Video, so you can expect them to set up and grace us with their incredible selection of horror classics and rarities. Shock Waves will be the media sponsor, and if you haven’t already I highly suggest you give their podcast a listen. With their insight and notable guests It is surely one of the most informative and charming horror podcasts out there.
TFW 2018 will be my fifth straight year in attendance, and it will be my first year attending on a press pass.
