This film stars Gabrielle Anwar, yes the chick from “Burn Notice”…which also stars horror icon Bruce Campbell by the way, as a successful children’s book author who is being troubled by horrific nightmares. While browsing online she notices a farmhouse that is exactly like the one recurring in in her dreams and in an attempt to solve her nightmares, she decides to spend her vacation at the farm house. While in this farmhouse she is constantly experiencing haunting visions of a dead little girl and teenage boy. She befriends a local publisher who begins to help her with the dark history of the house she is in, but as she gets to know him, she begins to feel he is hiding some very dark secrets from her. She then enlists the help of paranormal consultant Geoffrey Hunt(Forest Whitaker) to help her piece together this puzzle and put an end to a mystery that has plagued the house and its residents for decades.
This film had some pretty sweet effects and CGI, which made the dead girl and boy pretty darn freaky. I believed this helped the film get whatever credibility it has received, given that the ghosts are the only good things about this flick.
The story was quite boring, and unoriginal. Straight up. I was also very disappointed with Gabrielle Anwar’s acting abilities in this film. Usually the actor/actress with the bad acting in a film is never the lead role! Maybe Ms. Anwar is just not made to be a leading actress and should stick to supporting Jeffrey Donovan in “Burn Notice”. Just a suggestion.
Overall, this film is only good for the creepy scenes involving the dead girl and boy as they terrorize all who enter the home. Only watch this if you have nothing better to see(such as “The Haunting of Molly Hartley”)
