Here is an interesting and entertaining film I’d heard about years ago and after passing by it at least 50 times during trips to the local video stores, I finally decided to check it out. This film stars Desmond Harrington as “Kenneth Winslow”, a radically insecure technical writer who lives his life completely to the “all work and no play” boring life. Suddenly one day at work one of his co-workers shows him a website where you can create sex dolls that look “real life”, and are customized to your exact liking(these actually do exist in real life). Kenneth decides he needs some excitement(particularly in the area of females) and decides to order a “Nikki” doll.
Surprisingly this “Nikki” doll brings him much joy to his life, and he quickly gains confidence as if he were in a “real” relationship with “Nikki”. A new, attractive, co-worker named Lisa notices this change in Kenneth and she immediately begins to fall for him. Big problem, “Nikki” is the jealous type! “Nikki” begins tormenting Kenneth for spending so much time after hours with Lisa and suddenly the girl of his dreams is his biggest annoyance. Will “Nikki” let Kenneth live a normal life or will she get in the way of any “real” happiness that comes his way?
I really enjoyed this movie. It has some funny parts that will make you laugh due to the ridiculous things Kenneth does with “Nikki”. Its also funny to see Rip Torn in this movie as Kenneth’s tough as nails boss! This movie is not heavy on gore until the very end of the movie, but this is not the “gory” type of flick so its not really a problem. There are no real scares in this film other than a few pop-up scares involving “Nikki“ being places she shouldn’t be, but this is a more ‘fun” horror flick to watch, not a scarefest.
I have no major complaints for this film. It sure would have been cool to see more gore incorporated in this film, or if “Nikki” became truly possessed “Chucky” style and started hacking away at any “skank ass hoe” that got in her way. Other than that, I really have no beef with this flick at all.
Overall, you should definitely see this if you want to catch a fun horror flick. The idea is somewhat similar to “Lars and the Real Girl” but just in a horror mindset. Check this but don’t expect an overly serious film.
